PETERSBURG, VA- The Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings defeated Fayetteville State University Friday afternoon at the Petersburg Sports Complex in Petersburg, VA.

ECSU will play its first game of the championship round Saturday at 12:30pm.

So far ECSU is undefeated in the tournament. On Thursday, they defeated the #1 seeded Lady Eagles of N.C. Central 4-0. Then ECSU had a 10-5 lead in the middle of the 5th inning over Virginia State when the game was suspended due to rain. When play resumed on Friday afternoon, the Lady Vikings managed to outlast the defending champions 13-7. The Lady Broncos then became the second team to be shut out by ECSU 4-0 and the Lady Vikings earned their first championship birth since capturing the softball crown in 2002.

ECSU (15-12) must await the winner of the loser's bracket and will again take the field on Saturday at 12:30pm. If necessary, a tiebreaker game will be played at 4:00pm.
