VIRGINIA STATE EARNS SPLIT; LADY TROJANS RALLY FROM BEHIND TO DEFEAT LADY VIKINGS 8-4

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Virginia State University Lady Trojans used a late rally to defeat the Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings 8-4 in game two of a CIAA doubleheader action Thursday afternoon.

Entering their final a bat the Lady Trojans were facing a two-run deficit (4-2) when they exploded for a six-run inning to take an 8-4 advantage. After the score was tied at 4 apiece, the momentum took a permanent swing in the favor of the Lady Trojans with a grand slam by VSU catcher Taneshe Senior. The Lady Vikings fall to 9-11 overall and 9-7 in the CIAA while Virginia State improves to 9-16 and 8-8 in conference play. Alicia Graham, who pitched her back-to-back first doubleheader of the season, struck out 10 as her record as a starter slips to 5-7.

The Lady Vikings will return to action on Friday, April 14, 2006 as they will play host to Virginia Union University. The double header is slated for a 1:00pm start.
