LADY VIKINGS EARN FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN WITH 9-2 VICTORY OVER LIVINGSTONE

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State University Lady Viking softball team completed a doubleheader sweep of the Livingstone College Lady Blue Bears with a 9-2 victory in game two Monday afternoon. After dropping game one 20-4 to ECSU, the Lady Blue Bears sought to earn the split scoring a run in each of the first two innings for their first lead of the day. Then in their half of the second inning the Lady Vikings tied the game on a Maishiyah Brown double which scored Avery Jennings. Then an RBI single by Siendah Jenkins scored Jennings to even the score. Then the ECSU defense retired three of the next four Livingstone batters in top of the third. The Lady Vikings then went on to take the lead on a two-run homer by Maishiyah Brown in the bottom of the inning. The Lady Blue Bears were held scoreless for the remainder of the game while the Lady Vikings added insurance runs in the fouth (3) and sixth (2). In her fourth start of the season, freshman pitcher Livia Baker evened her record 2-2, striking out 7 batters. The Lady Blue Bears remain winless on the season as they fall to 0-9 overall. The Lady Vikings (4-8) will return tomorrow at 1:00pm as they play host to Shaw University in a CIAA doubleheader. The games will take place on the ECSU softball field behind the RL Vaughan Center.
