2009 will mark the fourth year for Bill Holt at Elizabeth City State University. Most recently he served as the Offensive Coordinator at Chowan University in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. In 2006, he inherited a group that ranked near the bottom of the CIAA in almost every category. Most significantly an offensive line that gave up 26 sacks. By the end of the 2006 season the offensive line helped turn the offense around by setting a school record of fewest sacks with 11 in over 300 passing attempts. The offense also ranked in the top two offensive categories in the CIAA. He helped to develop three All-CIAA offensive line selections and one All-American in Ronnie McClary. He also placed three ECSU players from the 2006 season to the Rochester Raiders Arena Football team. These players were instrumental in the team clenching the 2007 CIFL Indoor Football Championship. Coach Holt brings a wealth of experience to the Viking football program. Previously he has held head coaching positions at Granby High School in Norfolk, VA, Eustis High School in Eustis, FL, Colonial High School in Orlando, FL and JEB Stuart High School in Fairfax, VA. Additionally, he held the top post for the Chesapeake Bay Neptunes out of Virginia Beach and the Tidewater Sharks of the Mason Dixie League in Norfolk, VA. Coach Holt also has an extensive background as an assistant coach, serving as the defensive coordinator at both Stonewall Jackson High School and Booker T. Washington High School, the offensive line coach at Granby High School for four seasons and the offensive coordinator at I.C. Norcom High School in Portsmouth, VA. He has coached numerous NFL players most recently Anthony Fielding (Dallas Cowboys) and current New York Giants offensive tackle, Julius Franklin an All-MEAC selection out of Bethune-Cookman College. Holt played his high school football at Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, VA. He then went on to play for the 17th Air Force in Ramstein, Germany where he was team captain. After leaving the service he then played for legendary Jim Garrison as a tight end at Chowan Junior College, and finished his playing career as an offensive guard for the Mountaineers at Appalachian State University under Jim Messere. Some of his coaching accolades include Virginia Pilot Coach of the Year (1981), Orlando Florida Central Coach of the Year (1993) and Mason Dixie League Coach of the Year (1990). He also was the head coach of the East-All Stars in the Florida East-West All Star game in Orlando, Florida in 1997. Coach Holt also has a distinguished record of service to our country as a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and the United States Air Force Reserve. He holds a B.S. from Appalachian State University in Physical Education and a M.S. from James Madison University in Secondary Education. A native of Virginia Beach, VA, he is married to Dr. Jean Holt and they are the proud parents of two daughters, Holly and Kirsten, and one granddaughter, Amanda. They reside in Suffolk, VA. |
