While at Slippery Rock, Walker served as a graduate assistant in 1995-1996. In 1996, he returned to his alma mater as the assistant men's coach for the Vikings. That season saw the Vikings advance to the Elite Eight in Louisville, KY. At the conclusion of that year, Walker ventured out on his own when he was named the Head Men's Basketball Coach at Voorhees College in Denmark, SC.
