GUTIERREZ NAMED CIAA BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR
June 8, 2005 ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Carlos Gutierrez, a junior outfielder of the Elizabeth City State University baseball team, has been named CIAA Player of the Year as voted by the CIAA Baseball Coaches Association. A native of Bronx, NY, Gutierrez finished the regular season tied for first with 5 home runs. In addition he leads the conference in total bases (76) and is fourth in both walks (22) and runs scored (36). Gutierrez, a physical education major who holds a 3.4 GPA, batted .413 in 2005 helping ECSU to a second place finish in the CIAA. The Vikings (16-20) will begin competition in the 2005 CIAA Baseball Tournament April 21, 2005. They will take on the 3rd seeded Trojans of Virginia State University at Whaley Colbert Field in Petersburg, VA. Game time is slated for 10:00am. |
