VIKINGS SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER WITH SHAW, HOLD OFF BEARS 6-5 IN GAME TWO

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State University Vikings earn a doubleheader sweep of the Shaw University Bears with a 6-5 win in game two Saturday afternoon. The Vikings finish the regular season with an overall record on 20-12, with an 11-5 conference mark. As it now stands they will be the second seed when tournament play begins on Thursday in Petersburg, VA on the campus of Virginia State University. The Bears did not make it easy for the Vikings as they used a three-run sixth inning to cut the ECSU lead to one (6-5). After holding the Vikings in the bottom of the inning the Bears failed to produce in the top of the seventh. Starting pitcher Hershel McNeil retired the first three batters via a strike out, a fly out to right field and a ground out to first base to end the game. McNeil went the distance striking out eight in route improving his record to 5-2 on the year. Pacing the Vikings offensively was John Wilson who went 2-for2 with a home run and four RBIs. The Vikings will return to action on Thursday, April 20th in Petersburg, VA for the 2006 CIAA Baseball Championship.
