ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Senior outfielder Carlos Gutierrez homered twice Wednesday afternoon to help propel the Elizabeth City State University Viking past Saint Paul's College 16-1 at Knobbs Creek.

Unofficially, he has broken the single season record for home runs because he registered one against Shaw University on Monday. However since that match-up was suspended due to rain, the homer will not count until the Vikings and Bears finish that game on April 15th. Until then Gutierrez is tied for the single season record for home runs (10) with former ECSU first baseman Mark Martin, who set the record back in 2002. Carlos finished the day going 3-for-4 and for the fifth time this season registered 4 RBIs. His season best for runs batted in is 5 which came in 15-9 win back on March 14th against Benedict College. As a team ECSU scored 10 runs in the second inning to put the game out of reach. Just the opposite for the visiting team, the Tigers committed 2 errors and managed on 2 hits in game one. Sophomore pitcher Ben Pitts improved to 2-0 on the year as he struck out 11 of 26 batters faced.

Game two of this CIAA doubleheader, which will close out their season series, will begin in approximately 30 minutes. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
