ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State University baseball defeated Columbia Union College 4-2 to complete the doubleheader sweep Friday afternoon at Currituck County High School.

The Vikings drew first blood in the 3rd inning when with two men on, Ivan Laney's RBI single scored both runners for a 2-0 lead. The score would remain that way until the Pioneers got on the board in the top of the 6th inning via a 2-RBI double by Michael Passarell to tie the score at 2 apiece. In their half of the 6th, with 2 outs the Vikings would reclaim the lead when a single by Meshaw Taylor scored both Rasheed Bradshaw and John Wilson for a 4-2 advantage. In the final inning the Pioneer would add a run and were threatening with runners on second and third but Kendall Hurst's fly ball was caught by Carlos Gutierrez to end the game.

The Vikings (2-0) will return to action on Saturday, February 25, 2006 as they will host Lincoln University. Game one of the doubleheader will begin at 1:00pm. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
