ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State baseball team defeated Columbia Union College 6-0 in their season opener at Currituck County High School.

After scoring a run in the first inning, the Vikings used a 5-run third inning for the final point spread. Carlos Gutierrez went 2 for 3 and drove in 3 runs and stole 2 bases in his 2006 debut. Starting pitcher Ben Becker went the distance for ECSU, striking out 4 out of 32 batters faced. As a team the Vikings amassed 6 stolen bases to none for the Pioneers.
